The Journey Of A Thousand Miles

Updated: Aug 17

"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step"

Laozi

August 1, 2024 - I thought that was something from the Hobbit, but it has come from Laozi (Lao Tzu), an ancient Chinese philosopher and, quite likely, the founder of Taoism. His influence on Taoism is profound, shaping the core beliefs and principles of the philosophy. He is credited with writing the Tao Te Ching, a fundamental text in Taoist philosophy that emphasizes living in harmony with the Tao, or the natural order of the universe.

By the way, Laozi is a Chinese honorific that translates as “the Old Master,” so who knows what his name really was?

Update: Laozi's real name is believed to be Li Er. He also had a courtesy name, Boyang, and is sometimes referred to as Lao Dan.

What is a courtesy name?
